Have you ever wondered what is it that brings together a gold toothed drum ‘n’ bass legend, a Bollywood star and a ukulele orchestra, a floor polisher and three rifles? We are sure what your answer is, the Prom Season, 2009, of course.
The program declared today for the 115th Proms comprises of a Bollywood concert, being held for the first time and one of the best known singers and movie stars –Shaan is going to bring a splash of colors by spreading enthusiasm and energy throughout the Royal Albert Hall along with his troupe of dancers and band The performance presented by Shaan will be at the pinnacle to an Indian Voices day August 16, exhibiting a wide range of dance and music from the nation, including folk tunes and classical vocal pieces.
There are 100 concerts to be featured in this season at the Prom, the 2009 season features 12 more than it did the last year resulting in this year’s Proms to have broken three figures. The last night at the season will conduct an open air Prom in Park concerts at five venues around the nation comprising for the very first time, Northern Ireland, Hillsborough Castle. Goldie, a Drum ‘n’ bass artist, closely missed victory in Maestro conducting competition last year on BBC Two, and has been offered to compile a new portion for the BBC Concert Orchestra centralizing the evolution theme to commemorate Charles Darwin’s 150th anniversary of On the Origin of Species.
Another unique and unusual highlight is The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) , as they present their distinct and bring their unique and often amusing adaptation of illustrious portions to the Albert Hall on August 18 for a late-night Prom. There are exclusively devoted Proms to inconspicuous creators Michael Nyman and Philip Glass.
The BBC Proms director, Roger Wright, mentioned that the season assured, “two months of inspiring and outstanding music-making”.
